Tooth Mousse!

TOOTH MOUSSE

·        Tooth Mousse releases RECALDENT which adheres to soft tissue, plaque, pellicle and hydroxyapatite.
·        It delivers amorphous (solid is a solid in which there is no long-range order of the positions of the atoms.) calcium and phosphate into the saliva and plaque fluid
·        It is Lactose Free, but it does contain milk proteins

What tooth mousse aims to do…

·        The action of tooth mousse is similar to that of salivary proteins and phosphates
·        It is able to help promote remineralisation, buffer acid and reduce the plaque acid effect on tooth structure
·        The longer the RECALDENT material is left in the mouth, the more effective the result.
·        Tooth Mousse contains 10% RECALDENT
·        Recaldent works with environmental fluoride. If a patient uses tooth mousse immediately after brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, the fluoride will combine with and enhance the remineralising activity
·        Tooth mousse may inhibit the growth & adhesion of strep mutans, which would otherwise flourish in an acidic environment (ie – bulima)
·        GC Tooth Mousse PLUS also contains fluoride, at a rate of 900ppm

USES of Tooth Mousse

·        After professional Fluoride Application
·        After scaling and root planning – to help desensitise areas
·        Treatment of white spot lesions
·        Tooth Sensitivity – Especially in patients with a low resting salivary pH
·        Erosion – from gastric reflux / wine / carbonated & sports drinks
·        Erosion during pregnancy due to hormonal changes which decrease the buffering capacity of saliva, and frequent reflux / nausea with low pH acid from stomach.
·        Early childhood caries – use a smear nightly after brushing
·        Root surface caries
·        Caries Stabilisation (in conjunction with lifestyle changes)
·        Special needs – Chemotheraphy / radiotherapy patients
